Nova LMS

On the students experience

One place for every class, every grade, every deadline — without the chaos.

Stop hunting through three apps for an assignment due tonight. Stop guessing what your grade is. Stop wondering if your teacher saw your message. Nova puts your whole academic life in one place — and gives you tools that actually help you learn, not just submit.

Chapter I

What ships now.

Every item below is live in production. We pilot at El Camino Real Charter — you can demo the running system before signing anything.

i.

Live in production

Your dashboard, your way

A single home screen showing what's due, what's late, what's coming up this week, and how you're doing in every class.

ii.

Live in production

Assignments and quizzes

Submit work, see rubric feedback, retake quizzes within the policy, and view detailed grade breakdowns per criterion.

iii.

Live in production

Modules and lesson plans

Walk through course material in order, with quizzes and discussions inline. See what your teacher has planned for the week.

iv.

Live in production

Discussion boards

Class discussions threaded by topic. Reply to peers, get teacher feedback, see who's contributing.

v.

Live in production

Real-time grade calculator

See exactly how a missing assignment will affect your grade before the deadline. Plan recovery before it becomes a crisis.

vi.

Live in production

AI Copilot for studying

Ask Nova to explain a concept from your reading, summarize a unit, or quiz you before a test. Trained on your actual course material.

vii.

Live in production

Essay Coach

Submit a draft and get specific, scaffolded feedback before you turn it in — never as a replacement for writing it yourself.

viii.

Live in production

Attendance & schedule

See your bell schedule, mark your attendance per period, request excused absences with a click.

ix.

Live in production

Direct teacher messaging

Message any teacher whose class you're enrolled in. Same channel they message you. Receipts shown.

x.

Live in production

Notifications you control

Pick what you want pinged about — late assignments, grade drops, new announcements — and how loudly.

Chapter II

What we have not built yet.

We name what we have not built so you can plan against reality. If one of these is critical for your school, tell us — we prioritise by pilot-school request.

i.

On roadmap

Study groups

Form a study group with classmates, share notes, schedule meeting times. Privacy-respecting — your teacher doesn't see what you discuss.

ii.

On roadmap

Native iOS and Android apps

Real native apps with offline reading, push notifications, and faster submission. The web app works well on mobile today; native is coming.

iii.

On roadmap

Wellness check-ins

Optional anonymous weekly check-ins. Your counselor sees aggregates, not individual answers, unless you opt in.

iv.

On roadmap

Peer review workflows

Teachers can assign you to review a classmate's work anonymously, with structured rubrics.

v.

On roadmap

Calendar sync

Push your assignment deadlines to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook.

vi.

On roadmap

College + career planning

Build a graduation plan, track A-G requirements, save college applications, manage recommendation letter requests.

Chapter III

Your data belongs to you.

The architecture decisions that protect this role specifically, not the generic security copy.

Under FERPA, the records the school holds about you are your records. Most LMS vendors quietly assume you'll never ask. We assume you might, and we built the feature.

Your parent has a self-service portal showing every record we hold on you, plus a log of every staff member who's viewed those records. When you turn 18, the same access flips to you. You will always know who's looked at your file and why.

AI calls about you are logged with content hashes. We can tell you exactly which AI features have processed your work, and prove the content the AI saw without retaining it.

Footnotes
  1. Full architecture in /nova/why — the threat model, the commitments, the gaps named plainly.

Closing note

See Nova through your school.

Nova ships through your school, not directly to you. If your school doesn't have Nova yet, tell your principal — we'd love to talk to them.
